It's indeed a spectacular and expensive book but the drawings are mostly incorrect blown up or 'on steroids' as Jemiba said compared with other sources as mentioned by Basil and the latest from Mr. Justo Miranda..

Thank you Basil, can you show us some of unknown Horten Project drawings? Sorry, Hesham, no scanner at hand. I can really recommend the mentioned book. It is bilinguale, german and english.
I'm not really sure, that even the Horten brothers back then already new, what size the radome actually would have. It's clearly meant for installation of a dish antenna and the size of such an antenna isn't set by the used wave length, but principally by "the bigger the better". So, probably all drawings of it contain a large percentage of speculation, I'm afraid. My dear lark, I thin it's the same as in beginning of this topic and also reply As Jemiba already mentioned , to much speculation is produced about the last Horten and other late WW II aircraft designs. I think this forum must not add to the confusion Regarding the antenna form - of course a parabolic dish was only intended for centimeter wavelength; insofar the wavelength determines the radome form and size.

In he was promoted commander of the Luftwaffe forces in the West.

After commanding the German air force in North Africa in support of Rommels Afrika Korps, he was put in charge of the anti-invasion air force in. Reitsch Like lm director Leni Riefenstahl, Hanna Reitsch was one of the few women to achieve high status in the male-led Nazi society.
She attracted much attention in the s as an unrivaled record glider pilot with daring and skill. An enthusiastic admirer of Hitler, she was appointed a ight captain and the rst woman test pilot by General Ernst Udet in She subsequently performed test ights with all sorts of military airplanes before and during World War II e.

He was greatly responsible for the Luftwaffes concentration on single-engined ghters such as the Messerschmitt Bf , on dive-bombers such as the Junkers Ju 87, and light and medium bombers such as the Messerschmitt Bf and Heinkel He , an emphasis which proved successful in the early years of World War II, but which turned out disastrously in the long term. In November , following a serious quarrel with Gring about the Luftwaffes shortcomings on the Russian front, Udet committed suicide.
For obvious political reasons, the affair was covered up.

Udets death was ofcially reported as resulting from an aircraft accident. Student Kurt Student , a World War I pilot veteran, helped develop the secret Luftwaffe in the early years, with many responsibilities, particularly in the domain of airborne troops and gliders. In , he was promoted to commander of the newly created Fallschirmjger parachute troops.
Hermann Gring, an ambitious empire builder like the other members of the Nazi hierarchy, insisted that the airborne troops remain under his personal command. Although he lacked the amboyant appeal of Erwin Rommel and shunned personal publicity, Kurt Student was rather loved by his troops for his genuine concern for their welfare and his courage on the battleeld. After Hitler turned against airborne forces, Student was mainly engaged in conventional land operations and planning a few special airborne missions such as the abduction of Mussolini in September In May , Student was put on trial by the British government for atrocities committed by his forces in.
Wever The Reichswehrs director of infantry training, Walther Wever was transferred to the Luftwaffe. A convinced Nazi, an untiring worker, and an able staff ofcer, he did much to develop the air force, with a particular emphasis on the importance of strategic long-range heavy bombers. In May Wever died in an air crash, and with him the heavy-bomber program lost its momentum and was never to recover. From then on, longrange bombers only received low priority and Kesselring and Milchs view prevailed, favoring light aircraft but depriving Germany of a heavy bomber eet.

It had no historical tradition, whereas land and sea battles were almost as old as humankind itself. The soldier and the sailor had inherited a wealth of precedent by which they could be taught the rudiments of their trade, but it was very different with aviators.
All they knew they had to learn by personal experience, not from textbooks. Considerable misconception existed concerning airpower, its organization, and the use that could be made of it. The interwar period was a time of plenty of theory as to the meaning of airpower, but there was no fully tried practice until the Spanish Civil War.
One school argued that an air force should be an integral part of the army and navythat it should be solely under the control of those two services, staffed and operated by men who were primarily soldiers or sailors. Another school maintained that an air force should be a separate ghting service. Advocates of these opposite views were vociferous in the press, on the public platform, in governments and in top military headquarters.
The opinion held by German aviators, supported by Nazi circles, was that the Luftwaffe was to be a centralized and independent airpower, a force called upon to conduct an independent war apart from the army and the navy, a force operating above the armys front, above the coasts and the open sea, above and over the entire land and possessions of the enemy.
